The Dirty Apron, the fine dining space offering up European and Pan-Asian cuisine. I was invited by Dirty Apron on previous Sunday to taste and review of their new menu.
Location: Dirty Apron is located inside the Piano man which is located opposite to Deer Park of Safdarjung Enclave Market
About Dirty Apron
The Dirty Apron it is brainchild of Engineer turned pianist cum self-taught baker man Mr Arjun Sagar Gupta arguably, he feels strongly about both food and music. As per restaurant own claims Dirty Apron, Delhi’s first Eurasian restaurant. It was launched in January, 2016 with a delicious medley of European and Pan Asian cuisine. They have, more recently, launched wood fired oven serving paper thin pizzas with deliciously smokey flavours. It extends to a lovely terrace on the next floor but which is perfect for winter-time soirees.
As mentioned already, Dirty Apron is part of The Piano Man, other amenities are The Jazz Club and Cake away located in the same building.
The Jazz Club which has a pubby feel and an acoustically designed ground and upper ground room. Arjun Sagar Gupta who himself is a Jazz Pianist; he was looking for a place where other musicians can come and play.
Cake Away on the first floor which is a small bakery cum coffee shop Arjun’s first venture was “Cake away” in the Gurgoan (Gurugram now) . The spacious kitchen holds its deserved spot on the first floor, next to the bakery, which is also called ‘Cake Away’. Arjun Says “we are establishing a coffee shop soon inside the cake away”
The Piano Man- Jazz Club, which officially was opened its doors to the Delhi crowd last year in September, 2015. The stage is well-equipped to host a variety of performers, the bar is well designed but the show stealer is the chandelier that hangs over the stage. Constructed using 58 trumpets, originally conceptualised by the owner by the Arjun himself it lends an added touch of glamour to the space. A chandelier is reflected in the large mirror right next to the stage. The brick walls have names of legends like Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong inscribed on them.
A small wooden stage surrounded by wooden seating makes up the ground floor, which looks like it could easily be a jazz bar in foreign bar. Just so performances aren’t disrupted by sounds of drinks being mixed and ice being crushed, the bar has been assigned to the mezzanine floor. For anyone sat there, though, it’s likely to feel like being at the theatre, especially with the ornate railing overlooking the stage below.
We are almost twelve bloggers on an invitation and are presented with a menu comprising of many elaborate dishes on the chef’s table, which is executed by Executive and partner chef Manoj Kumar Pandey with a fabulous career that started with the Oberoi group and Menu Designer and Consultant chef Ruchira Philip Hoon, who has an incredible knack for flavour and passion for cooking and service team is led by Owner Arjun himself. He is 100 percent entertainer.
A five course menu is already set for us.
We have started with starters and cold Soup
Cold Tomato Soup A Summer Soup infused with the flavors of garden fresh basil and juicy tomatoes.
Followed by Few Portion of each of following Salad,
Beetroot, Orange & Feta Salad A mix Salad and highly nutritious salad.
Raw Papaya Salad Thai Staple Raw Papaya Salad with nuts. I found it very mild in the flavour whereas the original Thai salad is very strong in flavor and very pungent.
Poached peach and blueberry salad little bit sweeter as expected.
Followed by Starters of day
The Stuffed Mushrooms are tossed in sweet, sticky Japanese Nonya sauce. The Nonya sauce isn’t very popular in India and the use of this sauce reflects the restaurant’s intent to give an interesting Asian twist to its dishes.
Thin Crust Veggie Pizza: Thin crust pizzas are staple food these days in every restaurant. But USP of Dirty Apron’s pizza is their flour, which is especially intensive and selective picked from Nasik and roll out in extra thin and topped with cheese and extra fresh toppings.
We ended our starter with paan flavored palate cleanser shot.
The Pumpkin Ravioli is embedded in Thai red curry and embellished with balsamic caviar.
Don’t dare to miss the Sea Bass when you are at Dirty Apron. Served in sweet chilly sambal and wasabi mash, this dish is an art.
Coconut Rice served with Sambal sauce and crispy okra and onions providing the complementing bite to the dish. A gentle squeeze of lemon can do wonders to this to further bring out the flavours.
We have rounded off the meal with spoonfuls of Lemon Grass and Kafir Lime Scented Crème Brulee and chocolate Nutella Muffin.
